OUR REVIEW

hotel

When you arrive in Railay, you depart from your ferry and jump straight onto a long boat. You are then taken to walkway which has been placed in the sea (it's completely dry and safe). You then have to walk from the sea to the shore. It is quite an experience and like nowhere else we have ever travelled to in the world. The Railay Princess Hotel is located just in front of you as you depart your ferry which is great news for any traveller carrying a hefty backpack as it's about a 3 minute walk.

The hotel has 126 rooms, a restaurant, roof top pool, mangroves pool, spa, pool bar and large lobby reception area. It is also connected to a small corner shops which sells the necessities and cheap, local prices. WiFi is free to guests however connectivity can sometimes be low if your rooms are located far away from the main hubs. For the best WiFi you should visit the lobby.

service

The service at the hotel was everything you could ask for. Very clean and tidy, the rooms were safe and the hotel staff were helpful and assisted to our needs. We posted some postcards from the main reception desk who were happy to help. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the hotel from start to end.

Spa.jpg

swimming pool

There are two pools at the hotel which are both completely picturesque. One is located just behind the rooms and has a lovely view of the mangroves/cliffs etc (this is the quieter pool for adults or families). The second is located on the rooftop of the restaurant which overlooks the stunning Railay mountains, pier and sea area. This is where the younger generation hang out as it has music playing all day and a pool bar.

fitness & spa

The fitness centre is small and has only 2 machines, weights and a weigh bench.

The spa is situated overlooking the mangroves and has the most beautiful view. The staff are very professional and offer a wide range of services from Thai massage to oriental treatments and mid-range prices (for Thailand), low if you are coming from the UK.

dining

There is a breakfast buffet served every morning which is included in your room price. You are also able to order room service until 12pm which is served from the pool bar menu (includes everything from pizzas, burgers, thai curry etc).

The breakfast options at the hotel I felt were pretty average. I'm quite a fussy eater and there weren't many "European" options to choose from. You have to pay for coffee if you have it made for you at the coffee-stand – however there is free coffee available at the drinks section – which we didn't see until we have already ordered coffees at the counter and got lumbered with a £5 bill at the end of breakfast - but it was our own error so we can't complain. Also, if you have a phobia of wasps (and I do) I would suggest getting a table in the middle of the dining area as opposed to at the sides as I was practically running around the breakfast hall screaming one morning due to the wasps.

You can eat/drink all day long at the poolside bar and the food and drink is tasty (and good value). The hotel also presented us with 20% off food & drink vouchers at check in to use in their own facilities. Make sure you remember to take this with you as without it the offer is not valid.

rooms

TThe rooms at Railay Princess were spacious and clean. A maid cleans daily and did this to a high standard. We had accidentally completely covered the room in sand after a trip to the beach one day and by afternoon time the next day the room was spotless.

The bathroom had a large walk in shower (no bath), large wash basin and toilet. The lighting in the bathroom wasn't great and a bit surgical-type so when you want to do your make up, it's best to do it in the bedroom area.

The bed was very comfortable (two singles pushed together) and the room had a full length mirror, large TV (with satellite channels) and a balcony. It is important to remember to keep the doors shut & locked when you are not using the balcony and keep all items safe inside the room as there are monkeys that frequent the hotel.
